Kick-off meeting of the Project \u201cFLOODSHIELD\u201d<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

On October 21st, 2022, the kick-off meeting of the cross-border Europeanterritorial cooperation project entitled “Joint flood risk governance and management in the Axios\/Vardar cross border area” and acronym “FLOODSHIELD” took place.<\/span><\/p>\n

The meeting took place at the “International Center for Digital Transformation and Digital Skills” located in the old Slaughterhouse on the west side of the city of Thessaloniki under the responsibility of the Lead Partner -Decentralized Administration of Macedonia-Thrace- with the participation of representatives of all participating partners.<\/span><\/p>\n

The project is co-financed by the INTERREG IPA\u00a0CBC Programme “Greece-Republic of North Macedonia\u201d 2014-2020. The Partnershipconsists of the Decentralized Administration of Macedonia-Thrace and the General Secretariat for Natural Environment and Water of the Ministry of Environment and Energy of the Hellenic Republic, along with the Ministry of Environment & Physical Planning and the Protection and Rescue Directorate of the Republic of North Macedonia.The project budget amounts to 1.474.450\u20ac and the project end date is 15.12.2023.<\/span><\/p>\n

FLOODSHIELD focuses on the transboundary Axios\/Vardar River that has the potential to provide a wide range of benefits, i.e., environmental, social, economic, and strategic. The scope of the project concerns the management of river flood risks in the cross-border area of \u200b\u200bthe Programme and was developed to minimize the cross-border flood risks and disasters by strengthening the cross-border cooperation, organizationally, technologically and socially.<\/span><\/p>\n

The kick-off meeting involved the mutual exchange of information amongst the partners regarding the planning of the actions and deliverables of the project, especially those that are to be implemented in the immediate future. The next project meeting is planned for January 2023.<\/span><\/p>\n
